Oliver Homberg is an agronomist and lover of all things natural. Born in Germany and growing up in Spain and Switzerland he established his European roots before moving to the United States for a BA in International Affairs and Sustainable Development at Northeastern University in Boston. In 2017, Oliver co-founded, with his then roommate Matt Alto, his first company, Boston Microgreens (BMG). BMG has extremely strong relationships, product offerings and an expansive international consulting network serving as an inspiration to decentralized farms across the globe.
Boston Microgreens is Boston’s most central urban farm, supplying over 100 restaurants, businesses and residential customers with fresh microgreens and specialty herbs. BMG runs a hyperlocal and extremely sustainable farming model, running on 100% renewable energy, 95% less water and delivering all produce to customers within 5 miles.
Produce is grown vertically on racks to allow for maximum resource efficiency in a small amount of space. All packaging is biodegradable and all used soil is recycled into local community gardens.
BMG produces over 75 varieties of microgreens and is able to do this thanks to the development of an in-house web application that is now launching into its own SaaS startup: Microgreens Grow App. BMG has been working with the best chefs in Boston since its inception and prides itself in its extremely high quality, customer service and relationship with the community.
In 2021, Oliver began partnering with local middle schools to create the Boston Youth Farm Program, an initiative designed to bring agriculture into school spaces, giving students exposure to plants and crating. The students’ learning is focused on nutrition, environmental sustainability and self empowerment.
In the realm of his personal and spiritual development Oliver discovered the world of mindfulness and meditation almost ten years ago, most recently completing a masters of wisdom meditation teacher training under the wonderful DavidJi in Carlsbad, California. He has enjoyed folding mindfulness into every aspect of his work and personal life.
Oliver looks forward to engaging technology, education and regenerative agricultural practices to create spaces that create healing, wellness, sustainable living and community around the world. He feels grateful to be part of Living Whole Online and its educational philosophy and vision.
