Become acquainted with filmmaker Colin Evans. Kathryn discovered him through a Facebook post by Sheila Magalhaes about Colin’s current film project about grief, loss and addiction. Here is the trailer on Instagram
Colin follows Mason, a young man struggling to process the overdose death of his best friend Tyler. Through a film noir lens, Mason retreats into an imagined detective world where he investigates his own memories in an attempt to understand what happened.
Grief isn’t straightforward. It’s a psychological battle between you and you.

Course Description
Colin Evans brings a story to film that is close to his heart and life experience. It is a story about drug addiction and death by overdose that resonates with far too many people. After Tyler’s death, Mason adopts an imagined psychological detective persona within which he investigates his own memories and thoughts in order to understand and deal with his deep pain.
Rather than presenting addiction and loss in a conventional narrative, Colin invites viewers into Mason’s internal world, a place where memories guide and unanswered questions collide.
We want this to be intimate, almost claustrophobic, so the viewer realizes “I’m not the only one that feels this way. I’m not alone. I need to accept this and face it head on.”
-Colin Evans
Colin has studied film with Evan Schneider and the team at Hop Top Films in Boston Massachusetts, where he has received support for his current film project.
Growing up there were a lot of experiences with addiction, grief and loss and I had a lot of those experiences in my personal life. The story needed to be told through my eyes. It comes from a place of experience and knowing.
-Colin Evans
In this conversation, Colin discusses the personal experiences that shaped the story, his journey into filmmaking, and how creative work can help people confront and process difficult emotions and illnesses.
